Jordan tenders to buy 100,000 T hard wheat
Hamburg

Jordan's state grains buyer has ssued a tender to purchase 100,000 tonnes of hard wheat from any origin, European traders said on Thursday.

The bidding deadline is May 28. A Jordanian grains official told Reuters shipment of half of the volume would be in the second half of July and half in the first half of August.

Earlier, European traders had said shipment would be split 50:50 between the second half of June and the first half of July.

In its previous wheat tender on May 7, Jordan bought 100,000 tonnes of Ukrainian wheat at $396 a tonne c&f.

That was almost $100 per tonne less than the country's last purchase on April 17 when it bought 50,000 tonnes of Black Sea origin wheat at $494 a tonne c&f.

Global wheat prices have fallen from their peaks since mid-March, largely because of rising prospects for a large global harvest this summer.

This has encouraged some major importers, including Jordan, to increase buying. Jordan has also increased purchases in recent months following a decision in January to double its wheat stocks to provide a buffer against a dramatic rise in global wheat prices since last summer.-Reuters
