Bahrain's Prime Minister yesterday backed a report published by TradeArabia on dangers facing the region if the Strait of Hormuz is closed.
He highlighted, at his weekly majlis, huge potential damage that could be inflicted if the waterway is obstructed in any way.
The report, based on information gathered by the Bahrain-based weekly business intelligence magazine The Gulf, predicted that a global catastrophe could ensue if Iran carried out threats to close the strait.
Prime Minister Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa yesterday called for greater co-operation between Gulf countries to confront the challenges.
He also stressed the need for co-operation between countries based on broader and more encompassing concepts that originate from common interests and a mutual desire for lasting security and stability.
This can be realised through a unified vision, he said.
"Attempts at creating discourse between nations will not stop, and there are policies that are not in the best interest of the citizens of the different countries, including the citizens of the region," the Premier said. - TradeArabia News Service
