Drydocks to manage DMC’s Industrial Precinct
Dubai

Dubai Maritime City (DMC), the world’s first purpose-built maritime centre, has signed a contract that grants Drydocks World, Dubai, exclusive rights to run and manage DMC's Industrial Precinct.

With its specialised expertise and excellent professional track record, Drydocks World has been selected to provide efficient management to the Industrial Precinct, which has been developed by Dubai Maritime City to be a crucial element in the overall development of the regional maritime sector.

Under the terms of the contract, Drydocks World will manage all components of the Industrial Precinct, including wet berths, dry berths, workshops, warehouses, the 3,000-tonne and 6,000-tonne ship lifts, the ship lift control building, central administration building and covered yacht repair area, among others.

'This partnership is a significant step towards consolidating our position as a centre of maritime excellence and establishing Dubai as the maritime hub of the region,” said CEO of DMC Amer Ali.

“Drydocks World – Dubai's maritime experience and expertise are key assets that will deliver a substantial impact in creating a fully integrated maritime community within Dubai Maritime City.”

'We are honoured to be given the opportunity to manage this groundbreaking project, which represents the future of the maritime industry. Dubai Maritime City offers several key features that are only found here, including the 6,000-tonne ship lift within the Industrial Precinct; as such, Drydocks World – Dubai has a very positive outlook for this partnership, as it opens new windows of opportunities for us and the rest of the key players in the maritime industry,' said COO of Drydocks World Hamed bin Lahej.

Dubai Maritime City's Industrial Precinct will host ship repair and maintenance companies as well as associated businesses within a total area of 227 hectares; 121 hectares allocated for the commercial district, while the industrial district has a total area of 106 hectares oriented around a central vessel basin.

The Industrial Precinct's primary elements include ship repair facilities, yacht repair and manufacturing facilities, workshops and warehouses, as well as staff accommodation and administration.

Other facilities available at the industrial district are 19 ship repair plots, a quay wall over 3,115 metres, 31 small dry berths, 11 large dry berths, a rail transfer system, a 1,720 metre wet berthing, shops, showrooms and canteens.

Drydocks World will be made up of four principal companies: Dubai Drydocks, Al Jadaf Shipyard, Platinum Yachts FC and Platinum Yacht Management, all of which have aligned business activities involving ship repair, conversion and ship building. – TradeArabia News Service
