Ras Al Khaimah's tourist traffic jumped 28 per cent last year, recording its best figures in the past few years, according to Ras Al Khaimah Tourism.
Annual tourist arrivals in RAK numbered about 215,000, not counting day visitors, RAK Tourism manager Hilary McCormack was quoted as saying in a Gulf News report.
'A lot of our tourists are coming from European countries like Germany, France and Italy.
'We are focusing on increasing the number of tourists from Russia,' she said.
The emirate is hoping to increase the number of tourists to 2.5 million by 2012.
The tourism department is strongly promoting RAK as a holiday destination with a focus on its heritage and cultural sites.
