Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE are pushing ahead with multi-billion dollar railway projects, and key contracts are set to be awarded soon as the energy-rich Gulf states seek to boost local infrastructure to meet rising demand.
French engineer Alstom will submit an offer on Saturday to supply trains and equipment for a high-speed railway linking Saudi Arabia's holy cities to the Red Sea coast.

Scott Wilson Group, the international design and engineering consultancy for the built and natural environments, has won a £14.5 million ($23.2 million) project management contract on a high speed rail project in Saudi Arabia.
A consortium led by Saudi-based Al-Rajhi construction group has won the SR6.8 billion ($1.8 billion) civil works contract for the high-speed railway project linking Makkah and Madina, said a Saudi Railways Organization (SRO) official.
