Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa has won a second term in office, state-run Rupavahini television reported on Wednesday.
"The president has recorded a remarkable victory, with a more than 1.8 million vote majority," Rupavahini said.
Sri Lanka's president took a strong lead in early returns on Wednesday, but his main challenger said he feared arrest after troops surrounded the hotel where he and other opposition leaders were staying.
