The docking of a German liner carrying 2,300 tourists at Bahrain’s Khalifa Bin Salman Port on Friday marks the launch of the kingdom’s cruising season which will see many as 36 cruise ships calling at the port until March 22.
Emirates airline has signed a Dh28 million ( $7.6 million) contract with a local firm Excel to develop an additional multi-aircraft docking system in their Dubai engineering facility.

Dubai Maritime City, the purpose-built enclosure for maritime related businesses, carried out a total of 318 vessel docking and undocking operations in the first half of 2011, marking a two fold increase over the same period last year.
A total of 68 cruise liners are expected to deliver upwards of 145,000 passengers and 50,000 crew in Abu Dhabi during the forthcoming 2011/12 season, said a senior official of the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA).
