TE Data inks e-payment deal with Egypt network

Cairo, January 9, 2011

Fawry, the leading electronic bill payment and presentment (EBPP) network in Egypt, announced that customers of The Egyptian Company for data transfer (TE Data) can pay their monthly bills through its nationwide network with immediate effect.

TE Data, the fast growing data communication and Internet service provider in Egypt, is the country’s leader, with the biggest infrastructure and 70 per cent of Egypt’s capacity.

Under an agreement signed with Fawry, TE Data customers will be able to pay their bills for all services rendered by the company through Fawry’s extensive network. TE Data customer can either pay their bills in cash at post offices in Egypt or at 2500 bill payment and mobile top-up points that are available at medium and large grocery stores or pharmacies, shopping centers and supermarkets in Cairo, Alexandria and Delta region.
Customers who have bank accounts can also pay their bills via ATMs, as major banks in Egypt offer Fawry service through its network of outlets. Customers can also pay by debit cards via ATMs of National Bank of Egypt, Banque Misr, Banque Du Caire, Bank of Alexandria and Arab African International Bank. The National Bank of Egypt also allows customers to use their credit cards on its ATMs to pay bills through the Fawry network.

Customers need not have a printed bill in hand, as they can simply head to any retail point displaying the Fawry logo, check their bills and pay it. The Fawry branded PoS machine will show the outstanding balance and also displays the issuer’s confirmation of payment. Customers will then get a printed receipt and receive a confirmation SMS on their mobile phone.

“We’re pleased to work with TE Data to offer its customers several more options for bill payment through a modern, simple, easy to use and yet secure network”, said Ashraf Sabry, Fawry CEO.

“The fawry Network offers companies, merchants and service providers the ideal customer satisfaction solution, in addition to improved bill collection.  Using the Fawry network helps lower the costs of issuing and collection of bills through a nationwide network that covers all payment channels including cash payments, banks, post offices, debit and credit card payments and through retail outlets”, he added.

“TE Data is the leading provider of internet services in Egypt and we’re keen on reinforcing this position by joining hands with a prominent company like Fawry that is pioneering this modern bill payment concept in Egypt,” added Ahmed Osama, managing director of TE Data.

Fawry plans to increase its PoS machines at retailer stores to 3000 by the end of the year and to 12,000 by the year 2012.
“Our strategy is to enable consumers to use the Fawry network in future to pay bills for almost anything from vehicle and medical insurance, utilities and government services, and towards paying their monthly premium satellite TV subscriptions,” stated Ashraf Sabry.-TradeArabia News Service
