New chamber to boost key Bahrain-France ties

MANAMA, April 16, 2015

The French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Bahrain (FCCIB) has been set up as an economic initiative of the French Embassy with support from the Bahraini French Business Club.

The establishment of the chamber was done at a constituent general assembly meeting comprising all founding members, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

It will be part of the network of 112 French Chambers of Commerce and Industry in 82 countries as well as 180 chambers of commerce in France.

With a mandate of two years, Jean-Christophe Durand has been elected president, with Abdulla Juma as vice-president, Waleed Al Rayes as secretary and Vincent Pluchet as treasurer.

Aurelien Cadars, Abdul Wahab Al Hawaj, Basim Al Saei, Jean-Baptiste Lucas, Waleed Kanoo and Jean de Tinguy are members, making a total of 10 directors on the board.

As per the memorandum of association, the president and vice-president will be alternately French and Bahraini with the founding president being French.

The board of the FCCIB is the supreme governing council of the chamber, responsible for guiding the chamber's policies and taking major decisions concerning the chamber's strategy.

The highest authorities in France and Bahrain have been keenly supporting this project from early beginning.

The FCCIB aims mainly to help develop economic and commercial relations between Bahrain and France, to provide a platform of exchange and networking at the service of the Franco-Bahraini firms in Bahrain.

It has 12 corporate, nine small and medium-sized enterprises and 55 individuals as members. - TradeArabia News Service
