Bahrain starts $749m road revamp project

MANAMA, September 28, 2014

Bahrain's Ministry of Works has started work on the BD288 million ($749 million) Abdul Rahman Al Dakhil Avenue revamp project in Manama.

The ongoing project at Block 321 in Manama area involves the extension of the road from Palace Avenue till the Exhibition Road, said a statement from the ministry.

The scope of work includes re-construction and revamp of Abdul Rahman Al Dakhil Avenue, re-building of the infrastructure by removing the old paving layers, levelling works, asphalting and paving works besides implementation of a stormwater drainage network, construction of parking spaces on both sides of the road and implementation of speed humps, it stated.

The work also includes installation of light poles in co-operation with the Electricity & Water Authority and implementation of ground channels for future use, said the statement.

The Roads Projects & Maintenance director Raed Al Salah said the project was part of the ministry’s program to rehabilitate and revamp old and deteriorated roads across the Kingdom.

The main contractor Jahcon Engineering Services is due to complete the project in about 28 weeks, he added.-TradeArabia News Service
