PU completes phase I of Jumeirah cooling projects

Dubai, July 14, 2008

Palm Utilities (PU), the water and district cooling utility service provider established by government-owned investment firm Istithmar, said it has completed the first phase of key cooling projects on Palm Jumeirah Crescent and Jumeirah Lake Towers.

The projects, being undertaken by Palm District Cooling (PDC), will eventually provide 120,000 tonnes of refrigeration (TR) to Palm Jumeirah Crescent and 140,000 TR to the Jumeirah Lake Towers, said a company official.

Ahmed Butti, director general, Dubai Customs and Chairman, Palm Utilities said: “Palm Utilities is proceeding effectively with its expansion program and we are pleased with our rate of progress. These projects will serve two of the most prominent developments in Dubai – Palm Jumeirah Crescent and Jumeirah Lake Towers.'

'I believe that our involvement in these high-stakes developments will consolidate our position as the most trusted utility services provider in the region,' Butti noted.

'Palm Utilities has also successfully leveraged the strengths of Palm Water and Palm District Cooling to provider fully integrated and efficient utility services to these developments. Moreover, we have carefully designed these district cooling plants to offer the most cost-effective and environmentally friendly utility solutions,' he added.

To optimise the use of water, PDC will utilise treated sewage effluent (TSE) where possible for the operation of the district cooling plants.

The TSE used in the cooling process will be supplied by Palm Water and will be polished using purposely designed polishing plants. This method reduces the requirement of potable water for the cooling process and also allows the blowdown to be further used for irrigation purpose.

'Palm Utilities has consistently delivered the highest degree of quality and excellence in these projects and we are fully committed to maintain this reputation. Our uncompromising dedication to quality and reliability of service has also been a significant factor in our expansion program as we have received several enquiries from potential partners for key projects across the Middle East, India and Asia,' he said.

PDC delivers a complete cooling solution; by building and operating strategically located district cooling plants and integrated networks, which ensure the highest level of reliability.

PDC’s cost-efficient and environmentally friendly air conditioning solutions offers developers and end-users a wide range of benefits on cost, sustainability and reliability for high standard of living.

Palm Utilities, through PDC and PW, has been established to address the region's unique requirements in the distinctly critical areas of District cooling, and waste water treatment.

Palm Utilities has implemented a comprehensive expansion program and intends to pursue new core business activities within other utilities, including sustainable energy and environmental waste management.-TradeArabia News Service
