X-Calibur sets up new business unit

Dubai, November 27, 2008

UAE-based X-Calibur International has formed a new business unit X-Calibur Structural Systems to address market demands more efficiently despite the predicted slow down in construction.

The new Dubai-based business is a key component of the company’s longer term business strategy.

Brian Davies, president and CEO, X-Calibur International, explained, “With over 250 different products, we felt that we could address client needs and other market demands more efficiently by setting up a dedicated business unit for structural systems.”

The new business unit, which will operate alongside X-Calibur’s construction chemistry businesses, focuses on four main product groups - Resin anchors and structural adhesives; rebar couplers; mechanical Joints and structural strengthening systems.

As with its construction chemistry business, X-Calibur Structural Systems is offering solutions for green buildings.

Resin anchors and structural adhesives: X-Calibur has been awarded two European technical approvals for its flag ship product ResiLoc E and is the first UAE -based company to receive such approvals.

“ResiLoc E also scores high on the environmental front as it is the only resin anchor in the market which is considered non-hazardous and as such requires non-safety labeling and can be transported by normal methods,” said Davies.

Rebar couplers: High performance connectors to reduce reinforcing steel overlaps. This can reduce the amount of steel required in a structure.

Mechanical joints: X-Calibur is supplying extruded aluminum and composite joints to several prestigious projects in Dubai and has already begun local manufacture at its Sharjah manufacturing facility.

Its mechanical joints have over 20 per cent recycled content making them suitable for use on Leed projects that are pursuing this credit.

Structural strengthening systems: X-Calibur has recently purchased the rights to a structural strengthening system which includes carbon and aramid fibre systems, from a major UK company.

The system has more than a 15 year track record world wide. The resin adhesives that bond the strengthening fabrics and plates to the structure will be manufactured in X-Calibur’s Sharjah manufacturing facility.

“These types of systems are of great use in Leed-registered projects as they allow existing structures to be reused. The can also be utilised in new construction to reduce the amount of concrete and steel required,” he added.

The new business unit based at X-Calibur’s Dubai office is being headed by technical expert Mike Hannagan, who has over twenty years experience in specialist construction materials.

The business will be international and X-Calibur has already set up business units in the US and in Sweden to service Scandinavia, Finland and Russia.

Its Hong Kong operation will also be establishing a Structural Systems Division.-TradeArabia News Service
