AMB unit wins Borogue sub-contractor award

Abu Dhabi, January 28, 2010

AMB-Hertel has won the best sub-contractor for 2009 award from Borouge, a joint venture between Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) and Borealis, Europe’s leading producer of polyolefin, for its work on the world class Borouge-2 project.

AMB-Hertel, a joint venture between Abu Dhabi-based AMB and global company Hertel, is providing insulation, painting, scaffolding and fireproofing services for Samsung Corporation on the olefin conversion unit (OCU) and Tecnimont on the polypropylene plants.

The polypropylene plants are the largest in the world and AMB-Hertel, a statement said.

The award is recognition of Hertel’s operational, quality and safety excellence at the Borouge-2 project. A certificate and trophy was presented to AMB-Hertel by Faisal Al Shemsi, vice president – Borouge 2 Project.

“This is a very important milestone for Hertel in the Middle East and we are proud to be awarded as the ‘Best Sub-Contractor 2009’ on this prestigious world class project,” said Raghu Veer Singh, Hertel’s regional business development manager.

“In an increasingly competitive environment this is recognition of our project teams’ constant pursuit of excellence to deliver an integrated solution to our clients on this world class project,” he added.

The OCU will convert ethylene into propylene to feed two new Borstar technology polypropylene plants, which are the world’s largest, according to the statement.

The total annual output from the OCU will be 752 kilotonnes of propylene plus 39 kilotonnes of butane-1 – totalling 791 kilotonnes.

Borouge 2 will triple Borouge’s annual production capacity to two million tonnes of polyolefins and deliver a step change in Borouge’s capacity to meet demand in new geographic and industry markets, the statement added. – TradeArabia News Service
