Galfar, L&T win $764m Oman airport deal
Muscat, November 10, 2010
A joint venture of local firm Galfar Engineering with India's Larsen & Toubro has been awarded a contract worth 294 million rials ($763.6 million) to expand an Omani airport, a tender board official said on Wednesday.
'The contract at Salalah airport is to build a new terminal building, a runway, control tower, an apron and a hangar,' the tender board official told Reuters, speaking on condition of anonymity.
Salalah, a resort located in the southern region of Oman, is Oman's second biggest airport after Muscat.
Last week, the US engineering firm Bechtel was awarded a 706 million rial contract to build a terminal building at Muscat airport in a joint venture with an Omani firm.
Oman is also building airports at Duqm, Ras Al-Hadd and Sohar. -Reuters
