Bahrain awards $5.8m project tenders

Bahrain Ministry of Works has awarded eight tenders worth BD2.22 million ($5.8 million) for roads and sanitary works in February besides inviting bids for eight more tenders worth BD20.2 million.

Ministry of Work's assistant undersecretary for technical services Ahmed Abdul Aziz Al Khayyat said the road project tenders worth BD1.07 million included the opening of new dirt roads in Sanad Blocks 743 and 745 at a cost of BD517,534 which was awarded to Al Wardi Construction for a period of 32 weeks.

The tender for opening of new dirt roads in Hidd Block 211, Road 11 and the surroundings was awarded to Abdul Aziz Trading & Contracting at a cost of BD553,690, with implementation lasting for a period of 36 weeks.

The sanitary engineering sector witnessed the award of the cleaning and maintenance of tankers and construction channels at Tubli STP at a cost of BD118,440. The project was awarded to Al Kooheji Technical Services.

Preventive maintenance of the tertiary treatment unit was awarded to Al Kooheji Technical Services at a cost of BD392,975. The project will be completed in two years, said Al Khayyat.

The cleaning and maintenance of rainwater drainage manholes and rodent control in areas 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 was awarded to 4 contractors a t a cost of BD640,000 for a period of 2 years (2013-2015). The contractors are Al Kooheji Technical Services, Bahrain Pipelines & Contracting, Down Town Contracting and Iklil Contracting.

The projects for which bids were invited covered the roads, sanitary engineering and construction sectors. In the roads sector, bids were invited for the consulting services and detailed designs for the expansion and revamp of ShaikhJaber Al Ahmad Al Sobah Avenue; Alba & Nuwaidrat Interchange and Juffair ring road in the first phase, he stated.

In the sanitary engineering sector, bids were invited for the supply and installation of emergency wastewater discharge pumps project, and the special services for the ozone generation equipment at Tubli STP, in addition to the expansion of Tubli STP (phase 4- supervision consulting services), stated  Al Khayyat.

In the construction sector, bids were invited for the Comprehensive Disability Complex Project in A’Ali, the construction of a new building for the Bahrain Embassy and the Ambassador’s residence in Kuwait, and finally the fence construction in Gudaibiya, he noted.

Al Khayyat said the procurement department at the Cost Engineering Directorate has approved 161 purchase orders in February at a cost of BD390,011; covering various sectors at the ministry.-TradeArabia News Service
