Saudi to build smart pilgrim city

Makkah, March 26, 2014

Saudi Arabia will build a new full-fledged pilgrim city along the Jeddah-Makkah Expressway named after the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah, a report said.

It will be a smart city equipped with the most advanced facilities and systems, Haj Minister Bandar Hajjar was quoted as telling Makkah Governor Prince Mishaal bin Abdullah by the Arab News report.

He was giving a presentation on the project.

Hajjar said the city would be designed to become an outstanding landmark in Makkah, adding that it would provide all services required by pilgrims coming for Haj and Umrah.

The city will have government department offices, residential buildings, health facilities, Tawafa, Zamzam and transport offices, shopping centres, exhibitions centres, mosques and a Haj museum, he said.
