Qatar to spend $182bn on new projects

Doha, April 16, 2014

Qatar plans to invest around QR664 billion ($182.3 billion) in infrastructure, excluding projects in oil and gas sector, in the next five years, Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim Al Thani, the Minister of Economy and Trade, was quoted as saying.

In view of the massive projects planned the building materials manufacturing sector is particularly important for the country, a report in Peninsula newspaper quoting Al Thani said.

He addressing a conference organsised by the GCC and Yemen Building Materials Manufacturers Forum.

He said there were 432 building materials manufacturing companies in Qatar employing 36,400 individuals.

He said that globally the importance of green building is on the rise and Qatar government is keen on encouraging such buildings.
