Systra, Parson win Doha Metro deal

Doha, April 16, 2014

Qatar Railways has awarded a 170 million euro ($235.18 million) contract to conduct all tests necessary for the operation of the Phase 1 of Doha Metro project, a report said.

The contract was won by Systra, a French railway transport engineering consultancy, and the US-based Parsons Corporation, a leading engineering and construction organisation, The Peninsula newspaper said quoting an Al Sharq report.

The Phase 1 of the Metro project is expected to be completed by 2017.

Both firms will design and supervise implementation of technical tests for the final operations of trains, which include signals, control room for automatic switching of tracks and signal, and other technical modalities, the report said.

Qatar Railways (Qatar Rail) has awarded contracts worth over QR30 billion, including ‘design & build’ contracts for Phase 1 of Doha Metro.

The first phase includes 85km network with 37 stations and 55 tunnels.
