Bahrain awards $44m project tenders

Bahrain Ministry of Works has awarded five tenders worth BD16.9 million ($44 million) for roads and sanitary works besides inviting bids for 10 tenders worth BD30.3 million in April.

The awarded tenders included the first phase of Muharraq Ring Road Project; which is being implemented by Sayyed Kadhim Sayyed Mohsin Al Dirazi and Eastern Trading & Contracting Establishment at a cost of BD2.99 million. The work will take 40 weeks to complete.

The project comprises expansion of the Dry Dock Highway from the Interchange of Galali to Diyyar Muharraq at a length of 3885 m, in addition to the expansion of 736 m long Avenue 38. Works also include reconstructing Service Avenue leading to Samaheej and Galali, excavation works, protecting other existing services, constructing pavements, lighting and signage works.

The other awarded projects included the BD398,442 sanitary and rain water drainage project in Sitra Block 602; implemented by Mohsin Haji Ali Trading & Contracting for a period of 12 months, the construction of Malkiya Primary/Intermediate School for Girls at a cost of BD4,490,792; implemented by Sahari Contracting & Projects Contracting for a period of 20 months, the construction of Hunainiya Secondary School for Boys at a cost of BD4.61 million; implemented by Al Naba’a Contracting for a period of 20 months, and the construction of Busaiteen Intermediate School for Girls at a cost of BD4.4 million; implemented by Rakan Contracting and Bukhuwa Group for a period of 16 months.

The tenders for which bids were invited last month included opening roads in Hidd Block 109, Road 14 and the environs, the time contract project for the paving and re-paving of roads (2014-2016), revamping roads in Hamad Town Block 1214 and constructing an entrance to Dar Kulaib from Sheikh Hamad Avenue in Block 1215 & 1216, revamping roads in Riffa Block 912, and implementing safety barriers along Seef Causeway and the Central Market.

With regard to the sanitary sector, bids were invited for three projects, which were the urgent works for developing sub-stations, cleaning sewerage networks and drains, and the sewerage network scheme in Dar Kulaib Block 1048.

In the construction sector, bids were invited for two time contracts covering building maintenance works (2014-2016), and electrical maintenance works (2014-2016), stated Ahmed Abdul Aziz Al Khayyat, the assistant undersecretary for technical services.

"The Procurement Department at the Ministry’s Cost Engineering Directorate approved 211 purchase orders covering various sectors at the Ministry at a cost of BD543,545, and also approved new prequalification requests for 4 contractors covering the Ministry’s 3 sectors (Roads, Sanitary Engineering and Construction),’ he added.-TradeArabia News Service
