Pearl-Qatar inaugurates new fire station
Doha, May 21, 2014
The Pearl-Qatar, United Development Company’s flagship island development, has inaugurated its first fire station in a ceremony held at the new station premises.
The event was attended by high level government and civil defense officials headed by the Director General of Public Security of Qatar, Staff Major General Saad bin Jassim Al Khulaifi, as well as a delegation of senior UDC executives headed by the chairman of the board and acting chief executive officer Badr Al Meer.
The new station, located next to the Qatar Cool Plant at The Pearl-Qatar, will service the island and its current residential and commercial precincts, presently served by a station temporarily set to serve the island’s emergency needs, said a statement.
The current response times for areas in the West Bay District and vicinity range from five to 10 minutes, while the new station will reduce response time to areas at The Pearl-Qatar to less than three minutes, meeting the highest of international time standards, it said.
“This is an extremely important development for the community at The Pearl-Qatar,” said Al-Meer.
“In addition to reducing the demands on the stations now serving the areas closer to the island, adding this fire station would reduce response time and therefore bolster security measures and safety at The Pearl-Qatar.”
“We hope that the infrastructure and facilities developed at this beautiful ultra-modern station would encourage development of similar facilities throughout Doha’s growing new residential neighborhood and areas,” Staff Brig Al-Suwaidi said.
“The contributions firemen make to society often go unnoticed, and a fire station of this magnitude at The Pearl-Qatar acknowledges the efforts and sacrifices made by our brave men who often risk their lives to save others.”
The fire station includes covered parking for the fire trucks on the ground floor, offices, operation rooms, fire brigade facilities, training yard and an underground tank for fire and domestic water, foam tank and pumps room; the first floor features a lecture room, gymnasium, dining room, stores, sleeping rooms and senior staff facilities; the station’s smart systems feature BMS, an access control system and a closed circuit television system. - TradeArabia News Service
