64pc UAE firms to hire junior executives

More than 64 per cent of companies in the UAE will look to hire up to 10 employees in the coming three months, mostly for junior executive positions, according to a recent survey.

Bayt.com’s Middle East and North Africa Job Index Survey and a research and consulting organisation YouGov, found that atleast 23 per cent of the companies claimed they will probably hire within the same time period.

About 21 per cent of the firms will look to fill up to between six to 10 positions, with the requirement being sales managers (19 per cent), customer services representatives (15 per cent), human resources professionals (14 per cent), project managers (14 per cent) and executive assistants (14 per cent), it said.

As much as 62 per cent of Mena companies will also hire during the period, with 41 per cent of them private multinationals.

Candidate Qualifications and Skills

The most sought-after qualification among candidates in the Mena region are business management at graduate or post-graduate level, said the report.

In the UAE, the most desirable qualification is one in engineering (31 per cent), followed by business management and commerce, it found.

The employers in the UAE are looking for candidates who have good communication skills in Arabic and English, who are team players, have good leadership skills, and good negotiation skills, it stated.

In terms of experience, employers in the UAE prefer candidates who have the ability to manage a team, who have worked in sales and marketing, or in administration.

Recent Hires and Job Attractiveness

About 66 per cent of UAE companies have hired new employees in the last six months, compared to 63 per cent around the Mena region, said the report.

The UAE is more attractive as a job market than any other country in the region, according to 71 per cent of respondents in the country.

The most attractive industries in the country that are retaining the top talent are construction, and banking and finance (39 per cent each), followed by oil, gas and petrochemicals, it said.

Suhail Al-Masri, VP of Sales, Bayt.com said: “Overall, the region’s hiring outlook is looking quite positive for the coming 3 and 12 months. This will particularly be the case for multinationals, which could provide professional residents a foot in the door for some of the world’s largest companies.

“We can also see an increase in plans to hire in the public sector with 37 per cent definitely hiring in the next three months, compared to 31 per cent in January. The trend continues from past waves with most employers planning to hire people for junior or middle-level executive positions.”

Sundip Chahal, CEO, YouGov Mena, said: “By monitoring the trends for the most desirable job roles – such as accounts, sales and project managers and HR professionals in the Mena region, job seekers can hone their talents in these areas to improve their chances of employment.

“The specific qualifications and skills preferred region-wide and in each country provide an important benchmark for job seekers to strive for; bilingualism, leadership skills and the ability to work under pressure while being a team player are consistently desirable traits.”

The data for the suvery was collected from in the months of June and July, with a base of more than 2,200 respondents, of which about 2,000 were of working status. The respondents were from UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Egypt, Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia. - TradeArabia News Service
