JBR traffic diversion for Dubai tram project
Dubai, August 21, 2014
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is currently executing the last traffic diversion on Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR) Street, Dubai Marina as part of the ongoing works of Dubai tram project.
The trams are scheduled to start operation in November.
The 1 km-long diversion, which will last for a month, will include three intersections at the JBR Street, a Wam report said.
The tram will serve the communities of JBR, Dubai Marina and Al Sufouh. In the first phase, 27,000 passengers are expected to use the tram per day, and is expected to soar to 66,000 passengers per day in 2020, it stated.
The project will extend for a distance of 14.6 km along Al Safouh Street. In the initial phase, 10.6 km will be completed with the tram track starting at the Dubai Marina and ending at the tram depot near the Dubai police academy.
11 stations of the 17 stations in total will be implemented initially encompassing business districts and densely-populated areas, the report said.
To integrate transport means in the emirate, Dubai tram will be linked with Dubai Metro at two stations - Dubai Marina Station and Jumeirah Lakes Towers Station - via footpaths to facilitate passengers’ movement between the two transport means, it said.
