Nakheel names consultant for Jumeirah mall
Dubai, August 24, 2014
Dubai developer Nakheel has named Dar Al-Handasah as the engineering consultant for its upcoming two million sq ft shopping, dining and entertainment hub at Jumeirah Village Triangle (JVT).
The mall, one of several in Nakheel’s growing retail project portfolio, will be built alongside Dubai’s Al Khail Road, on the southern edge of JVT. It will feature one million sq ft of leasable area containing a multi-screen cinema, supermarket, department stores, speciality shops and an array of cafes and restaurants.
JVT Mall will primarily serve Nakheel’s Jumeirah Village, Al Furjan, Jumeirah Park and Jumeirah Islands communities, and provide a new shopping and dining destination for other nearby communities and the wider population of Dubai. There will also be ample space for parking, said the statement from Nakheel.
The mall is due for completion in the second quarter of 2017, it added.
As per the deal, Dar Al-Handasah will undertake design, engineering and supervision services for the project, for which a construction tender will be released in the first quarter of 2015.
A leading engineering consultancy, Dar Al-Handasah has worked on a number of other Nakheel projects, including The Pointe at Palm Jumeirah, the Dragon Mart extension and nearly 3,000 villas which make up the Nakheel’s Jumeirah Park residential community.
Nakheel is also planning a 500,000 sq ft shopping mall with cinemas, a supermarket and a variety of restaurants and retailers at its neighbouring Jumeirah Village Circle community.
The malls at Jumeirah Village complement a range of other retail projects underway by Nakheel. Among them are major malls on Palm Jumeirah and Deira Islands, extensions to its Dragon Mart and Ibn Battuta complexes and five neighbourhood shopping centres, the first of which – at Jumeirah Park – will open shortly.-TradeArabia News Service
