Spaniards win consultancy deal for Saudi high-speed rail line
RIYADH, September 3, 2014
A Spanish consortium has won a SR6 million ($1.5 million) consultancy contract from Saudi authorities to study options for a high-speed railway line between Riyadh and Dammam, said a report.
The new line, which will have a design speed of 350 kmph, will help reduce the journey time between the cities to just one-and-a-half hours, reported the Arab News.
The 10-month contract awarded to the consortium headed by Consultrans Company will include a study on the movement of traffic between the two cities as well as the preliminary technical description of the infrastructure for the project.
The study will also cover the trainsets for the high-speed line and an estimation of the cost of the project and its expected revenues, it added.
