Oman Rail project bidders ‘must buy 10pc locally'

MUSCAT, September 3, 2014

Contractors bidding for projects of Segment 1 package of Oman National Rail must commit to a procurement of at least 10 per cent of their bid value from local subcontractors to avoid disqualification, a report said.

Oman Rail has explained the tender instructions to the 18 international consortia and joint venture partnerships that aim to bid for the design and build package of the 207-km Segment 1 of the railway project, added the report in the Oman Daily Observer newspaper.

The segment links Sohar Port with the Oman-UAE border at Buraimi.

"Oman Rail's aspiration is to maximise as much as possible the share of the project's expenditure which is spent in Oman,” the rail company was quoted as saying.

"Without in any way limiting the performance evaluation criteria, a tenderer who does not meet this minimum threshold of 10 per cent will be disqualified from the tendering process," Oman Rail stated.
