Palm water pipeline nearing completion

DUBAI, September 7, 2014

The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) said it has completed 93 per cent of a water pipeline network for The Palm Jumeirah island and was on track to launch it next month.

The 600/900mm water-pipeline network is being developed at a cost of Dh57.5 million ($15.6 million), said a statement from Dewa.

Once completed, the project will help meet increasing demand for water, and support current and future projects on the island.

So far, 2,907 m of the 3 km project have been laid, said a senior official.

"The main goal of this project is to enhance the efficiency of the water transmission networks, and increase water supply to meet the increasing demand to support current and future projects on The Palm and its sustainable development," explained Dewa managing director and CEO Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer.

"Dewa provides a reliable infrastructure that is capable of meeting the requirements for development, in line with its strategy to enhance the efficiency and reliability of water networks to meet increasing demand and raise water supply to meet growth across different parts of Dubai," he added.

The project includes extending 600/900 mm glass reinforced epoxy (GRE) main pipes along the trunk of The Palm through the tunnel to its crescent.

"The project is going as per plan and work on the extension and launching of the networks is expected in October," he said.
