AK Design wins top interiors award

DUBAI, September 17, 2014

AK Design, an Adel Al Mojil Consulting Engineers company, recently received the award for Sustainable Interior Design Initiative of the Year for its design of autodesk offices in Dubai, UAE.

The region’s interior design community met on September 15 for the eighth annual Commercial Interior Design (CID) Awards at the JW Marriott Marquis Hotel in Dubai.

AK Design has now won a CID award for the third time, complementing its Best Office awards in 2010 and 2012.

The judges praised the project for its sustainable approach, the use of natural daylight and connection to green spaces outside.

Kim Nielsen, design consultant at AK Design, said: “I am very pleased with the evening’s outcome. Autodesk offices, which have just received Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (Leed) silver certification, is a project that we are very proud of. We would like to thank everyone involved as this was a truly collaborative effort by the design team, the contractor and the client, that made it such a successful project.”

“When designing the space, we intended to let the Autodesk brand speak for itself. We chose furniture, fabrics and colours that would complement the wall to wall sumptuous Autodesk graphics.

“The focus was on recycled, recyclable, renewable or sustainable material and strategies. Each finish, detail and function were scrutinised for Leed compatibility at each stage of the project.

“The selection of materials included timber, rubber, and felt, not only for their green credentials, but moreover to create a calm backdrop for the brand images and brightly coloured furniture,” Nielsen added.

“At AK Design we tend to create a narrative for each project. Grounding our projects with meaning and integrity provides clients, often non-designers, with a tangible solution and enables our interior designers to carve a logical and intelligent path for the project,” Nielsen continued.

“We feel that ‘good’ design is the rational and timeless way in which we shape the space around us, whilst linking the design to the region and adding enjoyment to the end user. We have a great team who collaborate well together and with consultants and clients alike. Their passion for design shows in all aspects of our projects.”

AK Design was also commended for its design for the Little Gems Pre-School, Dubai, in the category “Public Space”. – TradeArabia News Service
