Bahrain .... plans major road revamp.

Bahrain to develop newer, wider roads

MANAMA, October 1, 2014

Bahrain's Ministry of Works has announced plans to develop new and wider roads, that will be able to deal with the increase in traffic congestion across the kingdom, under a new 2021 strategic plan.

"There are plans to improve Muharraq Avenue, starting from Dry Dock Road through Samaheej to Al Dair to turn it into a multiple-lane road," said the ministry in its statement.

"A second part of the project will go from Al Dair to Busaiteen and over the bridge to Manama. We will also improve Road 47 and 44 in Arad, as well as widen Road 46 and add another exit to the industrial area," it stated.

"We will also finish working on the service road on Road 44," the statement added.

This year, the ministry said, it has paved over 52-km of dirt roads.

On the current projects, the ministry said work on a road linking Hamad Town to Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Highway was progressing well. "The 1.5-km flyover will connect to the highway," it added.

The ministry said that under the 2021 strategic plan, the key focus was on decreasing traffic congestion on Shaikh Hamad Avenue and interior roads in Hamad Town.

There are also plans to install street lamps and safety barriers and repave the roads around the project, it added.-TradeArabia News Service
