SNC-Lavalin nets $37m Dubai district cooling deal

MONTREAL (Canada), October 21, 2014

SNC-Lavalin, a leading engineering and construction group, said it had won a $37-million contract from UAE cooling company Tabreed to develop district cooling facilities for a resort in Dubai, UAe.

The facilities will be built at Meraasland Themed Entertainment Resort, which is part of Dubai's initial preparations to attract visitors to the World Expo in 2020.

As per the deal, SNC-Lavalin Gulf Contractors (SLGC) will provide design, procurement, construction and commissioning services for a district cooling plant with an initial capacity of 25,000 refrigeration tonnes (RT) and an ultimate capacity of 35,000 RT for Tabreed Parks Investment.

With an extensive portfolio of nearly 40 completed district cooling projects, primarily in the Middle East, SLGC has become one of the leading providers of district cooling solutions in the world.

Commenting on the win, Hisham Mahmoud, the president (infrastructure) SNC-Lavalin Group, said: "We are pleased with the opportunity to leverage our significant experience and expertise in this sector to help one of the UAE's leading district cooling utility infrastructure companies efficiently meet the demand for cooling, while reducing their energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions."
