Dubai's RTA wins special award for rail work

DUBAI, October 21, 2014

Dubai's Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) received a special award at the annual Meed Mena Rail & Metro Summit held last night in Dubai, UAE, in recognition of the contribution it has made to the development of passenger rail travel in the Middle East.

The award was accepted by Abdulla Yousef Al Ali, the CEO of the rail agency at a dinner held at the Conrad Dubai attended by speakers and guests attending the summit.

Addressing the gathering, Meed Events chairman Edmund O’Sullivan, said: "The RTA is a unique body, the first multimodal executive agency created to plan, design, build and operate transport infrastructure in the Middle East."

“Its remit encompasses roads and highways, including the ground-breaking Salik road-pricing system, the taxis, the buses, the ferries and the metro which every day serves millions of people living in and visiting Dubai,” stated O’Sullivan.

“The exceptional efficiency of Dubai’s transport system would have been impossible without the RTA,” noted the official. “But we are here in particular to salute the work the RTA has done in rail,” he added.

The Meed Mena Rail & Metro Summit is sponsored by Fluor, ZTE, Louis Berger, Vossloh Middle East, Bechtel, Drake & Scull, Autodesk, Hill International, Parsons and Thales.-TradeArabia News Service
