New bridge .... to provide for trains and vehicles.

Bahrain causeway study to be ready next year

RIYADH, November 22, 2014

A feasibility study on the proposed King Hamad Causeway, the second terrestrial link between Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, would be completed in early 2015, said a report.

The study would include projections for the cost and date of completion, stated the Arab News.

The plan to build the bridge was discussed in Jeddah in September this year during a meeting between His Majesty King Hamad and Saudi monarch King Abdullah.

Saudi Railways Organization, which is involved in the project, said the bridge would provide for trains and vehicles. The separate train line is expected to be part of the wider 170-km GCC railway network, the report added.

The new causeway expected to be 25-km long will run parallel to the existing King Fahd Causeway the only land link between the two kingdoms which opened in November 1986.
