Summit to discuss future of district cooling

DUBAI, November 29, 2014

The future of district cooling sector in the world will top the agenda at the upcoming conference of International District Energy Association (Idea) in Dubai, UAE.

The Idea's 6th International District Cooling Conference is being hosted by Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower) under the patronage of Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, the chairman of Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and chairman and chief executive of Emirates Airline and Group from December 14 to 16 at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel.

The conference will focus on developing solutions related to preserving water resources used in district cooling operations, said a top official of Empower.

"Empower has made significant strides by adopting treated Sewage Effluent (TSE) technology coupled with the reverse osmosis technology, to be used in cooling stations," remarked its chief executive Ahmad Bin Shafar.

The conference will address the ideal environment-friendly cooling solutions, as district cooling was introduced as an alternative to conventional cooling systems that consume more energy resourcesm, he noted.

"What is unique about district cooling is that it gives benefit to the end user, society, economy and environment, while providing eco-friendly cooling services with less wastage of natural resources," stated Bin Shafar.

"Empower is at the forefront of district cooling companies in the world in terms of adopting global technology-based optical wire networks to control chilled water and reducing significantly water consumption. We will highlight our expertise in this area before the participants," he added.

According to him, Empower has had a strong reputation in launching green initiatives since the launch of the company in 2003 to promote green economy in the UAE and protect environmental resources.

"We are working in accordance with the Dubai government's plan to phase out the use of potable and fresh water in cooling processes and develop innovative ways to conserve water," noted Bin Shafar.

"We will be demonstrating this system for other global companies at the upcoming conference," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
