Saudi Arabia completes $266m port projects

RIYADH, January 13, 2015

The Ports Authority in Saudi Arabia has carried out a number of projects worth about SR1 billion ($266 million) including the expansion of power supply units, new sidewalks and upgrade of security networks, said a report.

The Yanbu Port project, which cost more than SR400 million ($106 million), had been designed to increase the port’s capacity and capability to receive ships carrying larger volumes, reported the Arab News, citing a top official.

Ports Authority chairman Abdul Aziz Al Tuwaijri was speaking at the opening of a new terminal building at the Yanbu port.

Work will soon start on a new project at Ras Al Khair Port, which specialises in the mining industry, as well as a new station at the Dammam port, the report said.

Additional development projects will be carried out at the Duba Port and Laith, it added.
