Basic structures and facilities ... to be developed.

SFZ signs $38m infrastructure development deal with L&T

MUSCAT, February 18, 2015

The Salalah Free Zone (SFZ) has signed an infrastructure and facilities development deal for RO15 million ($38.8 million) with Larsen and Turbo Oman (L&T Oman), according to a report.

The project is aimed at developing basic structures and facilities in the free zone, said the Gulf Base report.

According to Awad bin Salem Al Shanfari, chief executive officer of SFZ, work on the project would start from April, involving 212 hectares of processed investment sites and is expected to be completed in 32 months.

“The idea is to host a good number of distribution and redistribution companies, export and export units by offering them processed investment sites,” he said.

“We aspire to develop the area with all possible amenities like roads, streets and parking areas, rainwater drainage, sewage system, potable water, fire and safety, civil works for power supply, communications and civil works for surveillance cameras,”  Bannur Sudhakara, joint general manager water and renewable energy at L&T, was quoted as saying.
