New solar projects coming up in Egypt.

Egypt begins work on $6bn green energy projects

CAIRO, February 25, 2015

Egypt has commenced work on 25 new solar and wind power projects worth $6 billion, a report said.

"The number of international alliances that won projects under the new feed-in tariffs with a total capacity amounting to 4GW and investments $6 billion started the establishment of companies in preparation for submitting requests for land plots’ allocations,” the Electricity Ministry was quoted as saying in the Egypt Independent report, which cited the newspaper Almal.

The government recently approved a draft law to limit its role to regulating and monitoring the electricity sector as opposed to managing it directly, the report noted.

The law is aimed at forming an independent body to improve the service and meet the increasing demand.

The new body will attract investments in the electricity sector and prevent monopoly, the Electricity Ministry said.
