Saudi NWC water reservoir ... creating history.

World's largest water reservoir in Jeddah

JEDDAH, March 2, 2015

The Saudi National Water Company’s (NWC) drinking water storage facility in Jeddah, which boasts a 2.064 million cu m capacity, has been declared the world's biggest water reservoir by the Guinness Book of Records, said a report.

The Jeddah strategic storage project, the first-of-its-kind, was conceived as a radical solution to meet the growing demand for water in the Saudi Arabian city, reported the Saudi Gazette.

The achievement will be recorded in the Guinness Book of Records, replacing the previous entry of 1.8 million cu m, it stated.

The first phase of project included the implementation of 11 cylindrical reservoirs with a capacity of 188,000 cu m per tank at a cost of over SR740 million ($197.2 million), it stated.

The NWC has already awarded contracts for the second and third phase of the project, which will add a further two million cu m.

The second phase will be implemented in the Braiman area, and the third in the Faisaliah area of Jeddah at a cost of SR824 million ($219 million), the report stated.

The company is targeting the completion of procedures to launch the fourth and fifth phases with a capacity of one million cu m for each phase of strategic storage projects, it added.
