Mansoor with the ‘Gatsby’ golf cart.

New concepts take centre stage at Bahrain expos

MANAMA, May 14, 2015

A number of new concepts and ideas are being showcased at this year's gulfBID, gulfInteriors and Gulf Property Show in Bahrain featuring the building and construction, interiors and real estate sectors.

A major attraction at the exhibitions is the ‘Gatsby’ golf cart which draws inspiration from the vintage Model T Ford, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

Fully designed and built in Bahrain by Ozee Trading, the electric car costs BD6,000 ($15,802), and all four units of the car that were produced have been sold during the first two days of the exhibition, the company's representative Zeeshan Mansoor said.

Mansoor said the car is powered by Trojan deep cycle batteries of which it is the sole authorised distributor in the country.

The batteries are also used in boats and high-powered cleaning machines.

The company is also showcasing BPA and lead-free artificial turf imported from the Netherlands at its stand in the exhibition.

The turf, which is certified for use on football fields, sells for BD13 ($34.5) per sq m.

Another exhibitor Al Reda Trading and Contracting - a contracting, trading and aluminium company owned by Ebrahim Abdulla Latfalla, a former Bapco employee - is showcasing decades of experience and quality workmanship at its stall.

Ever since its establishment in 1976, the company has opened several shops for the trading of building materials.

From 1986 onwards, it has focused on the trading business dealing in all types of building materials.

This has included the import and sale of ceramic and porcelain tiles, bathrooms and accessories from Spain, Italy, Brazil, India, Lebanon, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and China.

Now, with 38 years of experience in the market, the company says it can supply any make, model and size of wall and ceramic or porcelain tile in any quantity from its stocks or book and supply orders for vast quantities in a very short time.

In 2006, Al Reda launched a section for aluminium accessories sales as well as a project for glass decoration and design.

In 2010, it installed an automatic glass cleaning and cutting machine, followed by an innovative digital glass colour printing machine last year.

Meanwhile, Bahrain-based Almoayyed Construction is throwing the spotlight on its capabilities and project portfolio at gulfBID, an exhibtion for the northern Gulf's construction and building sectors.

The company was established by architectural engineer Jamal Ebrahim Almoayyed - who is its current managing director - and has built a reputation for providing the highest quality of services as defined by Bahrain's Committee for Organising Engineering Professional Practice.

Almoayyed Construction, which specialises in the construction of commercial projects, multi-storey buildings, residential compounds, and residential villas, has recently been awarded a contract to work on Durrat Marina's Phase One project.

Hempel, one of the regular exhibitors at gulfInteriors which celebrating its centenary this year, is showcasing its latest products in the Gulf and some tried-and-tested offerings that have been widely used throughout the region, at the show.

A highlight is the Strata, which is a high-quality multi-layered paint giving the ultimate protection for concrete floors. The name recalls tough rock layers of the earth's crust, said a statement.

Strata is being exhibited for the first time in the Gulf at the show.

"We expect Strata to be an ideal choice for shopping malls, car parks, hospitals, warehouses, food stores, railway decks and other tough spots," said area sales manager for decorative paints Jamil Matraji.

"Strata is produced in three types, one for light traffic loads, another for heavy and the third for medium traffic loads.

"It is currently being produced at our Dammam plant but other Hempel plants in the Gulf will begin its manufacturing as demand rises in markets around the plants."

Another product launched last year in Saudi Arabia but being showcased for the first time at a Bahrain exhibition is Casa Badeya, a paint which has long-lasting properties and is appropriately named after the Arabic word for everlasting heritage.

It is now being manufactured in Hempel's Jeddah and Dammam plants, but will be produced in Bahrain in due course once demand picks up, he said.

Among popular Hempel products being showcased at the company's stall is the interior paint Sadow.

The latest addition to the Fusion line, it is inspired by 'Sadow', the Arabic tent fabric which the company says "withstands the test of time and harshness of the arid Middle East desert".

Under Hempel's Purearth initiative for sustainable and eco-friendly products, is Contex, a coat hailed as the best protection for the exterior.

Organised by Hilal Conferences and Exhibitions, the annual market leading specialist exhibition for the Northern Gulf's building and construction, interiors and real estate sectors at the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre concludes today. - TradeArabia News Service
