Three Bahrain projects win Meed quality awards

Three major Bahrain infrastructure milestones have won the 2015 Meed Quality Awards for Projects.

Meed, a leading source of business intelligence, has announced the national winners in association with UAE’s Mashreq, a top financial institution, reported the Gulf Daily News, our sister publication.

The projects were assessed on engineering and construction challenges, as well as economic, social and environmental impact.

The Muharraq sewage treatment plant and sewerage conveyance project was awarded in the category of sustainable project of the year.

In the category of social infrastructure project of the year, Bahrain Survey Land Registration Bureau headquarters topped the list.

The landmark Mina Salman Interchange was declared winner in the transport project of the year category.

All three winning projects were part of Works, Municipalities and Urban Planning Affairs Ministry's portfolio.

The winning projects were announced on the sidelines of the Meed Construction Leadership Summit.

Assistant under-secretary for roads Huda Fakhro and assistant under-secretary for projects and building maintenance Mona Al Mutawa were presented with awards at a ceremony in Dubai, UAE.

Works, Municipalities and Urban Planning Affairs Minister Esam Khalaf dedicated the awards to His Majesty King Hamad, His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Premier.

Awali Oil Field by Tatweer Petroleum has won the oil and gas project of the year award.

Khalaf said that infrastructure projects worth $700 million would be launched in Bahrain, under the Gulf Development Programme.

Other planned projects include the revamping of Shaikh Zayed Highway, the second junction on Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Highway and the first phase of Muharraq peripheral highway.

The government is also planning to pump $360 million into projects in the education, health and social development sectors. – TradeArabia News Service
