Samsung wins top award for Bahrain project

MANAMA, June 1, 2015

Samsung Engineering, a leading engineering, procurement, construction and project management (EPC&PM) company, said it has won top honours for its Muharraq sewage treatment plant (STP) and sewer conveyance project in Bahrain at a major industry event held in Dubai, UAE.

The project, built to treat wastewater discharges from the island of Muharraq, was chosen as one of 10 flagship projects in the GCC by business intelligence service Meed.

Samsung Engineering received the Meed Quality Awards for Projects 2015, held in association with Mashreq, at a gala event in The Address, Dubai.

The project, part of the Bahrain 2030 National Masterplan for Sanitary Engineering Services, has provided a high technology treatment facility to accommodate the island’s growing wastewater demands, said Samsung in its statement.

Muharraq STP comprises a 100,000-cu-m-per-day wastewater treatment plant, a sludge incinerator, and 20 km of deep gravity sewer and wastewater collection networks to convey flows to the site for treatment.

Samsung Engineering’s Dr MooHoon Kim received the award in the presence of Muharraq STP Company’s CEO Jae-Seop Jeong, Bahrain Ministry of Works (MoW) official Shafiq Ahmed, and Ministry of Finance undersecretary for economic affairs Yusuf Humood.

The project team members were honoured with the GCC Project of the Year award in the sustainable project category, highlighting the main project achievements.

Samsung Engineering’s project manager of Muharraq STP project Sang Don Min said: “We are very pleased to be recognised as winner in the GCC region. What makes it stands out the most from similar projects is our commitment to co-prosperity for the community and to provide the best solution with comprehensive project management skills for the entire project execution process through proactive communication.”

Richard Thompson, the editorial director, Meed said: "We received a record number of entries, marking yet another successful year for the awards. The growing number of entrants is a reflection of the continuing strength of the projects sector in the region, with more projects being completed year-on-year."

"At the same time, the interest in the awards continues to reinforce their position as the benchmark for project excellence in this part of the world," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
