Qatar project .... to benefit 720 residential units.

Qatar launches work on major city suburb

DOHA, July 2, 2015

Qatar has launched a major infrastructure project costing over QR537 million ($147 million) to develop a major city suburb north of Salwa Road, a report said.

The development will benefit about 720 residential units and improve the safety of roads surrounding the residential and school area, reported The Peninsula, citing Ashghal, Qatar’s Public Works Authority.

The project is expected to be complete by the end of next year.

The highly-populated Al Sailiya area houses major housing complexes, but lacks in basic amenities such as street lights and proper electricity and drainage networks, said the report.

The Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning plans to set up a new central market in Al Sailiya, besides several other projects.

The project will be implemented in two segments covering an area of 1,460,000 sq m, the ministry said. It will develop the sewage system and drainage network.

The project also aims to build and improve internal roads and provide pedestrian pathways and cycle paths, the report stated.

The project has been awarded to Qatar Building Company, it added.
