UAE ... to spend heavily on road projects.

UAE approves $474m road projects

ABU DHABI, September 23, 2015

A high-level panel under UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has given approval for road projects worth Dh1.74 billion ($474 million), said a report.

These projects, approved by the President's Initiatives Committee, are aimed at improving the efficiency of vehicular traffic and to create a modern infrastructure network, reported the Emirati news agency Wam.

Under the scheme, a 42-km-long stretch that will link the Sheikh Khalifa Road from Maliha passing through Madam up to Al Shuwaib, will be built at a cost of Dh660 million ($180 million).

The key road, which will have three lanes in each direction, eight flyovers and three bridges, also includes upgrading the existing road on the Sharjah border to the Al Shuwaib roundabout, stated the report.

The committee also gave the green light for the construction of a 60-km-long road that will connect Wadi Al Qura with the road leading to Lahbab roundabout to Nizwa Highway.

The new artery will cross the neighbouring emirate Sharjah and end at Lahbab roundabout in Dubai, therefore linking the eastern region with the western region, said the report.

The project will also include improvement of the highway leading to Hatta and upgrade of the Dubai-Hatta highway which stretches 26 km, in addition to a new 19-km-long road, thus taking the total expenditure on these projects to about Dh1.085 billion ($295 million), it added.-TradeArabia News Service
