MANAMA, October 7, 2015

Aecom, a global provider of professional technical and management support services, has emerged as the lowest bidder to provide engineering consultancy services for the second phase of North Manama Causeway and Busaiteen Link.

A total of six leading engineering companies are bidding for the causeway project that will connect North Busaiteen and Bahrain Bay, according to Bahrain's Tenders Board which made the announcement on its website.

Aecom submitted a low bid of BD4.918 million ($13 million).

The tender was issued on behalf of the Ministry of Works, Municipalities and Urban Planning.

His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the Prime Minister, had in August ordered the construction of the fourth Manama-Muharraq crossing.

According to the Tenders Board website, Consolidated Engineering and Alami submitted the second lowest bid followed by Parsons Global Services in the third spot.

Other bidders for the project, which will connect Busaiteen to North Manama Causeway Interchange, include Kuwaiti group Dar SSH International Engineering, KEO International Consulting and Hyder Consulting Middle East.

Meanwhile, the ministry also announced the opening of bids for the Phase Two of Muharraq Ring Road Project.

"It will be implemented over three stages, the first of which will target reclamation and levelling works. Once work starts, traffic studies will be prepared and documents covering the second stage will also be completed," explained Essam bin Abdulla Khalaf, the Minister of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning.

According to him, the second stage comprises civil works and paving of dirt lanes. "In parallel to this, the engineering designs for the marine flyover and the main interchange connecting to North Manama Causeway will be implemented; forming the third stage of the project," he added.

Khalaf said the engineering designs have been presented to HRH, and he has approved them.

The project extends over 7.8 km  (including the Muharraq Ring Road and the fourth flyover between the Interchange of Saya Project and North Manama Causeway). A 110-m wide main road will also be provided as part of the project, he stated.

According to Khalaf, the project aims to provide an additional link to Muharraq, serving Qalali, Dair, Samaheej, Busaiteen, Diyar Al Muharraq, Amwaj, Dilmunia, Saya and the housing projects in the area.

Future expansion to Bahrain International Airport will also take place, in addition to connecting Muharraq Ring Road to North Bahrain Ring Road,’ he added.-TradeArabia News Service
