Habtoor Leighton to build 'smart' hospital in Dubai

DUBAI, October 21, 2015

Habtoor Leighton Group (HLG), one of the leading diversified international contractors in the region, has won a Dh468 million ($127 million) contract from Fakeeh Academic Medical Centre for the construction of the first phase of its new smart hospital coming in Dubai Silicon Oasis, the integrated free zone technology park.

A joint venture between UAE's premier building contractor Al Habtoor Engineering and Australia’s Cimic Group, HLG said besides the first smart hospital in the UAE, it will be developing a hitech medical university in the second phase.

The scope of works includes the construction of a 150-bed smart hospital and the installation of the medical equipment and the loose furniture, said the company in its statement, it added.

It also includes the structural works, the architectural and civil works, the mechanical, plumbing and electrical works and the final testing, commissioning and cleaning.

HLG chief executive and managing director, José A. López-Monís said the group aims to produce leading-edge research and treatment facilities for the construction of the Fakeeh Academic Medical Centre.

"The new facility comprises five centres of excellence that specialise in diabetes and endocrinology, muscles, bones and joints, emergency medicine, pulmonary medicine and cardiology. It will offer robotic surgery and feature an automated medication dispensing system," stated López-Monís.

All the construction works will be performed in order to permit the building to achieve the LEED Silver Certificate.

"This is an important award for the Group and an opportunity for HLG to deliver this distinctive and high-profile project to a significant client, Fakeeh Academic Medical Centre, FZCO," remarked López-Monís.

Project works will commence immediately with completion expected in October 2017, he added.-TradeArabia News Service
