UAE home to 36pc furniture factories in Gulf

DUBAI, November 4, 2015

The UAE is home to nearly 36 per cent of the furniture factories in the GCC region, thus reflecting the growth in the domestic furniture sector and increase in demand for imported timber from global and regional markets, said the organisers of the Dubai WoodShow, the largest exhibition in the Middle East for timber, machineries and tools.

Dubai WoodShow is set to host a larger number of exhibitors in its next edition to be held from April 4 to 6 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Following an impressive turnout of 10,544 trade professionals from 95 countries last year, the exhibition has attracted even wider variety of products from global brands, said the organisers Strategic Marketing & Exhibitions.

The next year's show will be expanding its range of products to include hardwood and softwood, wood machineries and tools, flooring, plywood, veneer, MDF, laminates and boards, finishings & fittings, paints, adhesives and glues, and others.

It will also be open for retail shoppers, making available a wide range of local and global brands targeting end users, said the organisers.

Dawood Al Shezawi, the CEO of Strategic Marketing & Exhibitions, said the number of home and office furniture factories in the Gulf region witnessed a dramatic increase, which positively reflected on the growth of timber sector.

The GCC furniture industry now boasts 1062 factories, up 4.5 per cent in the last five years, stated the official, citing the Gulf Organization for Industrial Consulting (GOIC).

“The 2015 edition recorded a 26 per cent increase over the previous edition, and we have completely sold out the exhibition space. Dubai Woodshow 2016 will be more diverse in terms of exhibitors’ portfolio and products," said Al Shezawi.

Dubai WoodShow brings together building materials suppliers and dealers, importers, exporters, furniture manufacturers, contractors, developers, machinery manufacturers, suppliers, distributors, dealers, flooring companies, architects, interior designers, as well as associations and institutions.

The exhibition will play host to visitors from Saudi Arabia, India, Pakistan, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar, Iran, Kuwait, and China.

According to Al Shezawi, the timber industry is booming with the ongoing construction activity in the region.

"Moreover, there is a growing demand from local furniture manufacturers who find in the annual Dubai Woodshow a platform for clinching mega deals onsite," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
