Dewa in 'smart move' with Dubai luxury developer

DUBAI, November 15, 2015

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) said it has signed a MoU with Dubai luxury hospitality developer Seven Tides International to boost three of its smart initiatives - Shams Dubai, Smart Applications and Grids and Green Charger - at its upcoming projects.

The MoU aims to encourage building owners to install photovoltaic solar panels to generate electricity, and develop smart applications to speed up electricity connections.

The duo will work to guarantee fast response times for the immediate reconnection of electricity during power outages, in addition to smart consumption, using smart meters.

It will also help improve the sustainability of resources, in addition to establishing infrastructure for electric vehicle charging stations.

Waleed Salman, the executive VP (Strategy & Business Development) at Dewa, signed the agreement on behalf of Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, the managing director and chief executive, with Abdulla bin Sulayem, the CEO of Seven Tides International in the presence of Dr Yousef Al Akraf, the executive VP (Business Support and Human Resources) at Dewa.

On the agreement, Al Tayer said the MoU supports Dewa’s efforts to achieve the smart city initiative.

"As part of our vision to become a sustainable innovative world-class utility, and as part of our efforts to establish developed infrastructure, we sign agreements and MoUs with many pioneering, specialist partners to implement our smart initiatives, which effectively contribute to supporting the sustainable development of Dubai, and to offer creative services for our customers," stated Al Tayer.

"We continuously work to involve the right people to achieve our development goals, which fully support the UAE National Vision 2021 and Dubai Strategy 2021," he noted.

Salman pointed out that the MoU is part of Dewa’s intensive efforts to speed up the smart transformation of Dubai.

"We believe that co-operation with the private sector will speed up the implementation of our smart initiatives to enhance both the quality of life in Dubai, and environmental sustainability," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
