KAEC inks $65m infrastructure development contract

King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC), a special economic zone on Saudi Arabia's Red Sea coast, has awarded a SR244-million ($65 million) contract to Ruzaiq Abdullah Al Jadrawi Al Thubaiti and Company for the development of infrastructure and landscaping at its upcoming residential development, Al Talah Gardens.

The contract is for the development of an overall area of 1.13 million sq m of levelled land in the fourth and fifth phases at Al Talah Gardens.

One of the most ambitious construction projects in the world, KAEC covers 181 million sq m of land and is being developed into a fully integrated city of two million people with one of the world's biggest deepwater ports, King Abdullah Port.

The mega project consists of the coastal communities offering total housing solutions for all segments of society besides the Hejaz district that includes the Haramain Railway station and the Industrial Valley which extends over an area of 55 million sq m.

As per the contract, Al Jadrawi Company will develop the roads, walkways, landscaped green spaces and public parks besides working on the the installation of water and electricity networks, a sewage system, a drainage system, the telecommunications network and streetlighting at Talah Gardens.

It is situated at the heart of the KAEC’s residential areas, with wide open spaces, walkways and bicycle lanes stretching for one kilometre across the district amid ample green landscaped areas. The district enjoys a highly-developed infrastructure and world-class public services, said a statement from the developer.

Residents will enjoy an exclusive, luxurious living experience, benefitting from a range of existing and future lifestyle elements, it added.

The project has been planned by a team of international civil engineers, led by SOM, a company with extensive experience and following the highest quality standards, said a top official.

"KAEC has successfully attracted a large number of investors, and national and international capital, requiring the provision of appropriate accommodation for all segments of staff," remarked Fahd Al Rasheed, the group chief executive and managing director of King Abdullah Economic City.

"This includes luxury villas and seaside apartments, which KAEC offers complete with a world-class infrastructure, quality facilities and modern services at all levels to provide ideal living conditions," he stated.

 Al Rasheed said KAEC was making continuous progress with various developments all over the city, in line with its strategic forward planning.

It has already signed up deals with more than 100 leading national and international companies for setting up bases at the special economic zone.

The KAEC is in the process of developing luxury sporting and entertainment facilities for those who seek a healthy lifestyle, including a social club and the Juman Park, to meet the needs of active, dynamic families.

In addition, it has a variety of beach and marina waterfront dining options, retail outlets, world-class healthcare and educational facilities, and mosques.-TradeArabia News Service
