Oman awards key desalination plants' contract

Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWPC) has signed an agreement to build two temporary desalination plants in the Qurayat and Sharqiyah regions of the sultanate, said report.

The deal signed with Muscat Water and a consortium of Al Sulaimi Group involves the design and construction of the Qurayat and Aseelah reverse osmosis desalination plants and the ownership, operation and maintenance of these facilities, reported The Oman Observer.

The projects will be structured as independent water projects (IWPs) with Oman Power and Water Procurement Company purchasing the potable water produced by the project under a water purchase agreement, said the report.

The total potable water output of Qurayat plant is 8,000 cu m per day, while that of Aseelah plant is 10,000 cu m per day, it added.
