Dubai start-up wins big at Mena property awards

DUBAI, September 25, 2016

Architecture start-up BMA Studio said it has won recognition for four of its UAE projects at the Africa and Arabia Property Awards 2016 held in Dubai recently.

An ambitious multi-disciplinary firm based in the UAE emirate, BMA Studio offers comprehensive services in architecture, interior design and landscape design for residential, commercial, and institutional clients.

In the region, the company has till date completed projects in Dubai and Sharjah (UAE) besides Morocco, and is now looking to expand its international capability.  

BMA Studio's work was named among the most innovative, exceptional, and ambitious projects of 2016, representing its country on a national stage at the Dubai awards ceremony held at the JW Marriott Marquis Hotel.

These include The Al Barsha Residence (a multiple residence architectural project located in Dubai), The Jumeirah Bay Island Beach House and The Atrium & Farm House (both single residences in Dubai and Sharjah respectively) and The Sharjah Showroom for its retail unit located in Sharjah, UAE, it awaits to collect its award later in the year.

The Emirati firm maintains a diversified practice and has developed expertise in mixed-use apartment buildings as well as innovative single-use architectural design concepts.

BMA Studio, which has its registered offices at Gold & Diamond Business Park, Dubai was founded in 2014 by Emirati entrepreneur Khalifa Al Suwaidi and managing partner, Iranian-born Leila Mohammadi Asl, who graduated from Architectural Association School of Architecture, London.  

Asl, who also holds the creative director position, was the brain behind the award-winning project design.

On the big win, Al Suwaidi said: "As a young architectural firm, we share the same vision and have set our sights firmly on proving our creative strengths on a global stage."

"We have worked hard through our start-up phase and faced many challenges, so it gives us immense pride to be recipient of four prestigious awards. We believe this will be the first of many more awards to come," he added.

In her comments, Asl said: "We do not just design buildings, we propose ways of living in a given culture, creating iconic buildings that stand out in their simplicity, functionality and sophisticated aesthetic appeal."
