Sharjah plans survey on labour housing units

SHARJAH, October 26, 2016

Sharjah government will conduct field surveys on labour housing to get precise information about the current status of existing facilities and services available to workers and to predict future needs, said a report.

The surveys are the first of its kind in the UAE and will provide complete and integrated database that includes locations, measurements and standards stipulated in laws and decisions in this regard, reported the state news agency Wam.

An agreement in this respect was signed by the Sharjah Labour Standards Development Authority (SLSDA) with Gistec, the world leader in Geographic Information System, it stated.

Under this deal, Gistec will provide "ArcGIS" platform, to develop apps, training and GIS on the Internet and mobile apps, using the latest "Servay123" and "ArcGIS" to obtain fast and accurate surveys as well as to document all labour camps in the emirate, stated Salem Yousef Al Qaseer, the chairman of SLSDA.

"We always seek to enhance the work environment in Sharjah through the provision of support to employees to encourage them to do their work under conditions conforming with the highest international work standards concurrently enabling them to work with higher efficiency to ensure effective contribution in the economic developmental path of the emirate and the UAE in general,'' he added.
