Empower honoured for new green methodology

DUBAI, November 15, 2016

UAE-based Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower) has won recognition for developing a new methodology that aims to reduce carbon emissions through the use of district cooling systems.

The methodology (AM0117) has been approved by the CDM-EB (Clean Development Mechanism – Executive Board) of the UNFCCC at its 92nd meeting in Marrakesh, Morocco recently.

The company was honoured during a gala dinner held on the sidelines of the opening day of seventh international district cooling conference 2016 yesterday.

Empower chief executive Ahmad Bin Shafar said: "We are proud to be honoured by the Dubai Carbon Centre, which is a key partner in the innovative methodology which was launched specifically in line with our relentless efforts to reduce carbon emissions, especially at a time when countries around the world are realising the importance of combating global warming."

"We are very proud as the UAE is on the top list of countries that are committed to conserve the Earth's natural resources. This methodology will soon bear fruit at the local, regional and global level, especially after its adoption for the first time by the the CDM-EB (Clean Development Mechanism – Executive Board) of the UNFCCC, which enable its application by organisations, companies and plants all over the world," he noted.

According to him, this special honour demonstrates Empower's advancement in the field of district cooling, energy consumption and environment preservation, within the directives of the country's wise leadership, which has given great importance to support all efforts to develop mechanisms and ways to decrease carbon emissions, develop sustainable development solutions, and reduce energy consumption.

Bin Shafar pointed out that the methodology was not the result of Empower's efforts alone, but part of an integrative and hard work of all organisations in the UAE, particularly the ones concerned with energy and environmental affairs.

"It is a worldwide milestone at the forefront of efforts to transform Dubai into a green city to be free of carbon, in line with UAE Vision 2021," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
